Many Civs with Classical Era UUs (Macedon, Persia, Rome, Kongo, Scythia, and India) are also especially hard to deal with, but you usually have at least some breathing room against them, so it's not nearly as bad as the Ancient Era Civs and are more of a difficulty hump to get over if you feel like taking the challenge.
